Sumário

A hipófise é o local de origem de 15% dos tumores intracranianos. Os adenomas hipofisários secretores de hormona do crescimento (GH) estao associados a sintomas e sinais com repercussao sistémica e consequentemente tem influencia a nível da qualidade de vida e sua longevidade. Os autores fazem um estudo retrospectivo de 32 adenomas secretores de GH operados no Serviço de Neurocirurgica do Hospital Geral de Santo António de Janeiro de 1987 a Dezembro de 1996. É realizada uma análise clínica, imagiológica, endocrinológica e neuro-oftalmológica. É feito também um estudo comparativo com a literatura.

Summary

Pituitary adenomas are known as representing 15% of all intracranial tumours. Growth hormone secreting pituitary adenomas are associated with symptoms and signs with systemic repercussion and deleterious effects on quality and expectation of life. The authors performed a retrospective analysis of 32 patients operated on GH adenomas between January/1987 and December/1996 at the Neurosurgical Service of the Hospital Geral de Santo António, Porto. We commenton the clinic, imaging, endocrinologic and neuro-ophtalmologic stuies. A comparative study with data reported in the literature is also done.
