Se presentan los resultados obtenidos mediante tratamiento endovascular con balones desprendibles en cuatro casos de fístula carótido-cavernosa directa (FCC directa) tratados durante los dos últimos años. Se consiguió ocluir la fístula con un balón y conservar permeable la arteria carótida interna en todos los casos. La remisión del cuadro clínico fue completa en la totalidad de los pacientes dos semanas después del tratamiento. Como complicación existió únicamente un episodio transitorio de afasia y monoparesia que cedió a las pocas horas.
During the past two years, four patients with direct carotid-cavernous fistulas have been treated by transarterial embolization with detachable balloons. Fistulas were successfully occluded and internal carotid blood flow was preserved in all cases. Signs and symptoms regressed two weeks after endovascular treatment. Only one patient had transient aphasia and monoparesia.
