Summary

We are presenting a personal series of 13 patients operated for ependymoma of the filum terminale from 1973 to 1995.

The clinical symptoms and signs, the neuroradiological diagnosis and the surgical treatment are analyzed as well as the results and follow-up.

According to our experience these tumors which present with a fairly typical clinical picture, show a favourable surgical anatomy allowing their radical excision in most cases with a good outcome.

The possibilities for adjuvant therapies as chemotherapy and radiotherapy are discused.
