Summary

This 32-year-old patient was treated for postraumatic hydrocephalus with a ventriculo-atrial shunt. The atrial catheter ruptured and emigrated the pulmonary artery but, apparently, there were no clinical consequences, and two years later the patient is still well. Ventriculo-atrial shunts may present numerous complications, but loosening of the atrial catheter which embolized the pulmonary artery is very rare.
