Summary

A case of ectopic ependymoma, located in the subcutaneous region atlevel of the intergluteal fold, in a 14 year-old girl, is presented. The lesion was erroneously diagnosed, from the clinical point of view, as a pilonidal cyst. The subcutaneous ependymomas of the sacrococcygeal region represent arare clinical entity. They are generally of the myxopapillary type, and plausibly they are originated from ependymal embryonic remains of this zone. The high rate of recurrences, and even of metastatic dissemination, makes convenient a strict control of the patients after surgical removal of these tumors.
