Summary

The pathological examination of a brain tumor is important in order to determine the prognosis and the postoperative treatment. Ki-67 is a monoclonal antibody directed against a nuclear antigen present only in the proliferating cells. The Ki-67 positive cells percentage offers a good index of the proliferating capabilities of a tumor.

The specimens of 20 patients that were operated on from an intracranial tumor were analyzed and their Ki-67 index obtained in a cytologic smear. The follow-up correlated well with the Ki-67 index.
