Abstract

A retrospective study of 35 patients who underwent lumbar spine transpedicular fixation with titanium material is presented. Use of titanium fixers has recently gained popularity because, unlike other metal alloys, their magnet-compatibility allows nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and they cause fewer artefacts in computerized tomography (CT).

After a six-month follow-up, clinical results were good in 79.9% of the cases and complications were minimaI. As demonstrated by CT, bone fusion of the treated segment was achieved in 80% of the instances. CT and plain x-ray oblique projections turned out to be essential technical postsurgical control of both screw implantation and fusion follow-up.
